Twelve years ago, Skip started the transition from instructional writing to literary prose. Six years ago, essays for the book, "Imposters: The Flies We Fish and the Fish They Catch" started taking shape on the page. Twenty-one essays later, with 82 pencil drawings by Carol (drawn over an 8 month period from December 2024 to August 2025), form a 286-page-6"x 0.64"x9" book, published by Stackpole Books, an imprint of Globe Pequot Publishing House.
The release date is July 7, 2026. Here's a brief summary about the essays inside:
IMPOSTERS contains twenty-one essays, all built—some of them very loosely—around a single theme: artificial flies. Each essay includes an opening art piece and illustrations of the flies with detailed recipes for tying them. Skip Morris's lifetime of colorful fly-fishing experiences fuels these compelling accounts that blend storytelling, insight, fly-fishing history, and fishing instruction.
Praise for Imposters:
“Imposters is much more than a book about artificial flies—take it from this non-fishing author. With eloquence and wit, Skip Morris swept me along a sparkling river of words, celebrating not just a lifelong passion for a unique pastime, but a reverence for nature. Paired with his wife Carol Ann Morris’s detailed and striking illustrations, these lyrical, often humorous essays will captivate fly fishing enthusiasts around the world.”
~A. J. Banner, USA Today, Publishers Weekly, and #1 Kindle bestselling author
“The stories are delightfully written and I can hear Skip telling them as if he were right there next to me. You'll want to read this one.”
~Gary Borger, author of Reading Waters and The Angler as Predator
“I always enjoy reading Skip's essays because he's always delivering me to places I've never been, and leading me into experiences that I've never experienced. Delightful!”
~Dave Hughes, author of Big Indian Creek and Nymphs for Streams & Still Waters
“As a skilled angler can effortlessly cast a fly into a challenging and technical drift, so too does Skip Morris direct the written word. He writes from decades spent on the water, adding humor and commentary that hooks readers as they find shared experiences and perspectives. Artist Carol Ann Morris brings further life to Skip's words through her soft pencil drawings.”
~Jessianne Castle, Editor in Chief, Big Sky Journal
